A tender, subtropical shrub that grows to 12', the Angel's Trumpet shows huge, felty leaves and enormous, pendant trumpet-shaped flowers. It has a sweet, heavy fragrance at night. It should be grown in sun to part shade, with average to little summer watering. The growth rate is faster with fertilizing, but it is more prone to insect damage. This variety seems to recover faster from hard frosts.

An evergreen groundcover that stays under 1' and spreads 2-3' and often wider with gray foliage and large magenta daisy flowers with an orange ring in the center.

These summer-blooming perennials form clumps with large, grass-like leaves. Its showy flowers, resembling lilies, are borne in clusters on stems held well above the foliage. Hemerocallis are very hardy,with few or none pests/problems.

This tall, narrow, open tree has a trunk that is smooth, white and "muscular," producing light green leaves with a heavy lemon scent when crushed. It quickly reaches a height of 60' or more. This clumping evergreen Iris bears tall, narrow leaves to 30" tall and white flowers marked purple in the center on stalks up to 3' tall. This variety has stiffer, darker foliage than the bicolor form. It requires sun to part shade with little or no summer watering when established.

Sustainable Fertilization

If you mulch heavily as recommended in the compost and mulch fact sheets you should not need traditional fertilization. Sustainable landscapes fertilize themselves as soil organisms break down and recycle the dropped leaves into nutrients.
