Common name:Chamomile, Roman Chamomile
Botanical name:Chamaemelum nobile

This evergreen perennial will grow 3"-12" tall and works well as a ground cover. It produces flowers from midsummer to fall and does best in light shade to full sun. It can be mowed occasionally to control height and makes a good lawn substitute.

Botanical name:Sisyrinchium bellum

Following winter rains, this grassy perennial brings a soft texture back into the garden. It produces an abundance of small, blue purple flowers which have a long bloom.

Fan Aloe

Common name:Fan Aloe
Botanical name:Aloe plicatilis

This wide succulent shrub grows 3'-6' tall and wide, with fan-like clusters of the bluish-gray round tipped leaves. From each fan emerges an open terminal cluster of tubular, orange red flowers in late winter to early spring. Plant in full sun if on the coast or in shade if inland. It is hardy to about 23 degrees F. It needs winter and spring irrigation if grown where does does not receive adequate water from rainfall.

Botanical name:Sedum sieboldii

This small perennial will grow 4" tall and 8"-12" wide. It has blue gray leaves with clusters of pink flowers that bloom in the fall.

Kangaroo Paws Big Red

Common name:Kangaroo Paws Big Red
Botanical name:Anigozanthos 'Big Red'

Anigozanthos flavidus 'Tall Red' is a perennial with dark green, smooth, swordlike evergreen leaves. It produces spikes of striking, fuzzy, tubular flowers in yellow-green, tinged with red that are curved at the tips. The flowers attract hummingbirds. Flowers bloom from late spring to fall if spent flowering spikes are cut to the ground. It makes for a good cut flower.
