Common name:European Grapevine
Botanical name:Vitis vinifera

This vine grows 20'-30' long. Many species of this vine produce today's wines and grapes. There are thousands of species worldwide, but this plant originated in Europe. Vitis is a woody perennial that climbs its way around the supports. It does better with long, warm to hot summers, with mild winters. Frost will kill the young shoots. Vitis does not do well with humidity, as it promotes disease. Well-drained soil is important also.

Island Snapdragon is an evergreen shrub or vine that grows from 2'-3' high and 3'-5' across with red spring and summer flowers. This plants needs partial shade in hot inland areas. It is a California native that is drought tolerant. It attracts hummingbirds.

Botanical name:Gaura lindheimeri 'Siskiyou Pink'

Pink Gaura is a profusely flowering perenial that grows to 4' tall. It has pink buds that open to showy pink and white flowers in spring and summer. Accepts full sun or partial shade.

Botanical name:Olea europaea

This broad tree will grow to 40' tall and has small, gray green leaves with fleshy black fruit that appears in fall. Purchase fruitless varieties to avoid the mess.
