Common name:Artichoke
Botanical name:Cynara scolymus

This perennial will grow 4' tall and 6'-8' wide. It has silvery green leaves with bluish purple flowers that bloom in spring. Artichoke is a favorite fruit/vegetable of California kitchens but it is a great ornamental plant often overlooked for color contrast. It is very tolerant of little water when planted for ornamental purposes.

Pink Mexican Evening Primrose

Common name:Pink Mexican Evening Primrose
Botanical name:Oenothera speciosa 'Rosea'

Oenothera speciosa 'Rosea' is a perennial ground cover. It grows 10"-12" high, with profuse showing of 1.5" wide rose pink blooms in summer. Flowers open in daytime and stems die back after bloom. It can be highly invasive.

French Marigold

Common name:French Marigold
Botanical name:Tagetes patula

This plant will grow 1'-3' tall and has small, dark green leaves with gold, orange, and yellow flowers that bloom in the summer and fall.

Permeable Surfaces

If you have impermeable paving that you would like to make permeable, there are two main methods for doing so:
1. Break up hard paved surfaces to create spaces for water to seep through.
2. Remove and replace the surfaces with permeable paving.
