This Rockrose is a bushy evergreen shrub 4' high and 6' across with narrow, gray green leaves and complimentary clear pink flowers. Flowers appear in great profusion in mid-spring and can continue well into summer. It is more refined in character than most other rockroses, and well-suited to smaller gardens.

Australian Rosemary

Common name:Australian Rosemary
Botanical name:Westringia fruticosa

The Australian Rosemary is an evergreen shrub that grows 3'-6' tall. It has soft, gray green leaves and white flowers throughout the year and prefers sun and little to average amounts of water. This shrub is also drought tolerant.

Yarrow

Common name:Yarrow
Botanical name:Achillea millefolium

This Achillea features spreading mats of fern-like rosettes, along with deeply divided leaves of a green or gray green color. In this form, the flowers are usually a white tone. Stems can reach 2'-3' above foliage. Yarrows propagate easily from rooted cuttings or division, which should be performed in the early spring or fall. Following bloom, one should dead head the plant and divide the clumps when it appears crowded.

Sunburst Trailing Gazania

Common name:Sunburst Trailing Gazania
Botanical name:Gazania 'Sunburst'

This ground cover is less than 1' tall and has evergreen, silver gray foliage with beautiful orange flowers that bloom January through September.

Nandina, Heavenly Bamboo

Common name:Nandina, Heavenly Bamboo
Botanical name:Nandina domestica

Nandina domestica is a graceful upright shrub that grows from 3'-6' in height. It gets its name from its bamboo-like growth habit. When thinned from the center it bears a remarkable resemblance to bamboo. It is best used in groups. It can be used in a shaded patio or out in a shrub border with full sun. An interesting feature of Heavenly Bamboo is the bronze color in the new growth when planted in full sun. It also bears clusters of white flowers in the spring.

Solving Runoff Problems

Importance of Water Shed

A watershed is a land area that drains rain and other water into a creek, river, lake, wetland, or groundwater aquifer. Water from your neighborhood also enters the watershed through the storm drain system and flows directly to local creeks without any treatment. It often is contaminated by pollutants that can be toxic to fish, wildlife, and people.

Soils and Compost:

Practice grass-cycling by leaving short grass clippings on lawns after mowing, so that nutrients and organic matter are returned to the soil.

Integrated Pest Management:

Remove irrigation water and fertilizer from areas where you don't want weeds to grow.
